  • Baby steps to myspace safety

    April 28th, 2008 by Josh

This first post sort of feels like launching a ship on a major cross Atlantic voyage. Such a huge journey ahead of us and we’ve only just begun the first few inches.

Currently, I just finished going over the final code for our prototype MySpace profile sanitizer. It sets all the settings in your profile to the most secure settings. So, it’s basically impossible for predators, weirdos and nondesireables (all those we generally refer to as “pervs”) to bug you, while still allowing your friends and people who know you to contact you even if they are not already on your friend list. From the women and teens we’ve talked with this is the optimal solution…letting you use MySpace as “a place for friends” instead of a place to be propositioned by strangers.

If you’re reading this the day I’m writing it, the site has a pretty terrible design I grabbed off a free template site, we don’t even have a real name for the profile sanitizer securer…thingy, we don’t have a logo and we haven’t even created the home page, yet.

As I said, a huge amount of work ahead. My goal is to get the profile safety tool (Norton Anti-Perv? haha) up as soon as possible and get the rest of the stuff taken care of as we can.

My next priority is to find some volunteers who are willing to help out with the work I know will be coming. They’re are literally hundreds of thousands of predators out there and millions of preteens, teens and women weathering their online assaults - yearning to be rid of them. As a man and a father, I feel like it’s about time we did something! I’m not going to be able to do it by myself.  We’ll need more project managers, programmers and testers.  If you’re like to be part of something big, get in touch and let’s chomp some MySpace predators!
